"ENB is fighting fit and as a nation we should be proud that the company, once again, ratchets up a few more notches our international dance reputation"
SUNDAY EXPRESS, 2 June 2008

English National Ballet celebrates the centenary of the Ballets Russes with performances of some of the troupe's great works. Ballets Russes productions were collaborations with major choreographers, composers, artists and dancers of the time including Pavlova, Picasso, Debussy, Chanel, Matisse and Nijinsky.

Highlights of the season include quintessential Ballets Russes ballets Les Sylphides, Le Spectre de la Rose, Schéhérazade and The Dying Swan. The performances also showcase Kenneth MacMillan's magnificent reworking of the visceral The Rite of Spring, which provoked riots at its first performances by the Ballets Russes; and the World Premiere of Faun(e), a re-imagining of Nijinsky's L'après-midi d'un Faune by internationally acclaimed choreographer David Dawson.

English National Ballet and The Australian Ballet both have direct heritage from the original Ballets Russes, and we are delighted that for this season the company will be joined by guest artists from The Australian Ballet for performances of Le Spectre de la Rose.

"You walk out aghast. Ballet is powerful, in beauty and horror, as this outstanding programme demonstrates"
