English National Ballet - Ballet Russes
As one of the only two ballet companies which have direct lineage from the Ballets Russes, English National Ballet celebrates the centenary with performances of some of the troupe's great works. Ballets Russes productions were collaborations with major choreographers, composers, artists and dancers of the time including Pavlova, Picasso, Debussy, Chanel, Matisse and Nijinsky.

Les Sylphides is poetry in movement; picture-perfect ballerinas flutter across the stage wearing long white winged tutus in Fokine's homage to the great Romantic ballets. Chopin's music sets the tone for the calm beauty of this ethereal and graceful ballet.
Schéhérazade features Rimsky-Korsakov's dramatic music and exotic scenery and costumes by the incomparable Léon Bakst. It tells the tale of the Shah's harem seducing his slaves amid wild revelry and the inevitable massacre of the wives and slaves when the Shah unexpectedly returns.
Other works created for the Ballets Russes will also be performed during the season.
