Step into the groove with Sam Haynes, a powerhouse of Hip Hop and Funk Styles dance. With a BA and Masters in Dance, Sam brings serious credentials and infectious energy to every class. She’s toured with legends like Pee Wee Ellis (James Brown’s music director) in FUNK: A Music Revolution, performed at the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, and lit up the stage at Sadler’s Wells for Breakin’ Convention with The Locksmiths Dance Company.
Her credits include Nike, Red Bull Dance, Bestival, Love Supreme Festival, and she’s a respected lecturer at London Contemporary Dance School. Sam is also the co-founder of #makemefunky, a London-based class series celebrating Popping, Locking, and 1970s funky social dances.

Do I need any existing dance experience?
No experience needed. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just looking to try something new, our friendly instructors will guide you every step of the way.
The classes are designed for you to enjoy a welcoming atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to let loose and have fun.
What dance styles are available? Who are the instructors?
Expect a class full of joy, rhythm, and soul. You’ll learn iconic moves like:
- The Rocksteady
- The Breakdown
- The Pony
- LA Stomp
All inspired by the legendary TV show Soul Train.
Each session includes a warm-up, uplifting music, and a playful vibe. You might groove through guided partner work, short choreographies, or even a Soul Train line to finish. One thing’s for sure — you’ll leave smiling!
Where are the classes?
The classes are located on The Dance Floor at Sadler’s Wells East, a public performance space in the venue’s light filled foyer.

Are the classes free?
These classes are free to attend. You’ll be asked to register your details on arrival at the Welcome Desk. No pre-booking is available, so we recommend arriving early to avoid missing out as spaces are limited.
What should I bring?
Bring comfortable clothing, a bottle of water and your enthusiasm!
What are the facilities at the venue?
Toilets are available on level 0, including accessible and gender-neutral toilets.
What ages are these workshops suitable for?
These workshops are designed for adults over the age of 18.
Is there food and drink available at the venue?
There is a water fountain for you to fill up your drink bottle.
Food and drink will be available to purchase from The Well and the Park Kitchen and Bar in the foyer.
