Viola Bruni - Devising from Images

3 hour movement workshop for dancers, choreographers, movement enthusiasts, and artists from diverse backgrounds who seek to expand their creative boundaries and explore new dimensions of dance and spatial expression that can incorporate images in the process. Through a series of exercises and explorations based on Checkov and Laban practices, attendees will:

  • Develop the ability to analyse images and identify spatial sensations, emotions, characters, and themes within them.
  • Explore different ways to bridge the gap between the visual and the kinaesthetic to translate emotions, stories, and ideas from the still images to movement.
  • Practice how to compose a movement sequence based on one or more images.

A series of printed images will be provided but artists are welcome to use photography they have taken themselves, own works of art, or other found images as a creative prompt that they find inspiring.

A remote session via Zoom will be held on Tuesday 21 November at 10am for those that cannot attend in-person or would prefer to meet online. Please click here for more information and how to book.

Part of Sadler’s Wells Artist Development Programme: Artist-Led Sessions. You can find out more about the selection process for this programme online here.
